5 Ways to Show Love for Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! Now is a great time to take stock of our environmental impact and consider ways to keep our beautiful city clean, healthy, and vibrant. Here are 5 quick and easy tips to be more sustainable and environmentally conscious:

  1. Use public transportation, bike, or walk: consider taking TTC instead of driving. No bike, no problem, try Bike Share Toronto. Our neighbourhood is best explored on foot, strap on your comfiest runners or pick up a pair at BlackToe Running.
  2. Support local: Look for shops and grocery stores that source their products locally. This reduces carbon emissions associated with transportation and supports local suppliers. For example, Portland Market is a nature-led store with a goal of working towards sustainable living.
  3. Reduce waste: Using reusable bags, containers, and water bottles instead of disposable items reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. Shopping at Bulk Barn at 393 King Street West will help you cut down on food packaging.
  4. Plant a garden: Plant a garden with native plants that can provide habitat for local pollinators (even on balconies). Get inspired by rooftop projects like the gorgeous rooftop garden at 401 Richmond.
  5. Volunteer for Environmental Activities: There are many opportunities in Toronto for people of all ages and skill levels to learn about environmental issues, meet new people with similar interests, and help make Toronto a greener place to live.

By making small changes in your daily habits, you can have a big impact on the environment. Remember, sustainability is a journey, not a destination, and every effort counts. Happy Earth Day!
