Important Notice: John Street Corridor Improvements

Members,

John Street Cultural Corridor Improvements from Stephanie Street to Front Street West began May 2018.

Work includes: underground utility work, storm water management system, streetscape improvements, enhanced tree canopy, wider, accessible sidewalks, special lighting, public Wi-Fi, and artistic furniture features.

Construction work will begin with Toronto Hydro infrastructure upgrades followed by road reconstruction.

Toronto Hydro Work: Phase One – Stephanie Street to Queen Street West
(with work along Queen Street West from John Street to Beverley Street)

  • Work began on Monday, May 14th, 2018
  • Rebuild aging underground infrastructure
  • Build new cable chambers
  • Install duct banks and replace cables needed for civil construction
  • Build infrastructure for other utilities and lighting
  • Expected completion date: Late 2018

Toronto Hydro Work: Phase Two – Queen Street West to King Street West

  • Work will commence 2019
  • Rebuild aging underground infrastructure
  • Build new cable chambers
  • Install duct banks and replace cables needed for civil construction
  • Build infrastructure for other utilities and lighting

Toronto Hydro Work: Phase Three – King Street West to Front Street West

  • Work will commence 2020
  • Rebuild aging underground infrastructure
  • Build new cable chambers
  • Install duct banks and replace cables needed for civil construction
  • Build infrastructure for other utilities and lighting

Toronto Hydro Work: Phase Four – Several Locations from Stephanie Street to Front Street West

  • Work will commence 2020-2021
  • Connect new Hydro infrastructure to systems

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TORONTO HYDRO WORK: 
PHASE ONE – STEPHANIE STREET TO QUEEN STREET WEST

  • Toronto Hydro’s contractor will work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and after hours on weekends as required and approved by the City
  • You will experience dust, noise, and other inconveniences. Every effort will be made to reduce impacts.
  • Work is planned for the sidewalk and boulevard. Property owners with items in the boulevard may have to move them during hydro construction 

Traffic Re-routing: 

  • John Street Northbound: These will be a 24/7 lane closure of John Street from Queen Street West to Stephanie Street
  • John Street Southbound: One lane of traffic will be open
